Maintenance
Making hummingbird nectar is quite simple and requires just two ingredients:
granulated white sugar (1 part) and water. (4 parts)
Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Measure the Ingredients: For every cup of water, use 1/4 cup of sugar. You can adjust the quantities based on how much nectar you want to make, maintaining the same ratio (1:4).

Boil the Water: In a pot, bring the water to a boil. Boiling the water helps to dissolve the sugar completely and also purifies it.

Dissolve the Sugar: Once the water is boiling, add the sugar and stir until it is completely dissolved.

Cool the Nectar: Remove the pot from the heat and allow the nectar to cool completely before using it.

Fill Your Feeder: Once cooled, pour the nectar into your hummingbird feeder.
Storage:
-
Refrigerate: If you have leftover nectar, you can store it in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Important Tips:
-
Do Not Use Food Coloring: Do not add red dye or any other food coloring to the nectar. Hummingbirds are attracted to the color red naturally, and it's not necessary to add artificial colors.
-
Clean Your Feeder Regularly: Clean your feeder every few days to prevent mold and fermentation, which can harm the birds.
-
Seasonal Use: In colder climates, you may want to use a higher sugar concentration (1 part sugar to 3 parts water) during winter months to help provide energy when nectar sources are scarce.
